Should I talk to my insurance company?

What if I’m not sure the extent of my injuries?

Medical bills are mounting and I’m not able to work. Should I take the insurance company’s settlement offer so as to be able to pay my bills?

What information do I need to provide to my accident attorney?

You will need as much information about the accident as possible,

  • Location

  • Weather conditions

  • Witnesses

  • Information on the driver, dog owner, or property owner

and anything else that might help your case. Get a copy of the police report, if there is one. Make notes of what you remember and what witnesses have said. Take photos of injuries or property damage.

What if I’m not sure who or what caused my accident?

You may still have a valid claim, even if the exact cause of your accident isn’t obvious at once. In the aftermath of an accident, we tend to be dazed and confused. You might even blame yourself, or feel vaguely guilty. But this doesn’t necessarily translate into objective guilt.

An experienced accident attorney can help you find answers to your questions and determine where liability may be. After we talk with you, we’ll be able to asses the circumstances and give you an idea of what the next step might be.

Should I talk to my insurance company?

You are required by law to notify the insurance company of any accident. An accident attorney can advise you about what to say or not say during the conversation.

It’s wise not to volunteer any information or make any apologies. Don’t assume anything was your fault. Whatever you say when talking with the insurance company adjuster can be later used against you.

You’ll be protected from giving away your rights if you consult with an accident lawyer before speaking to the insurance company.

What if I’m not sure of the extent of my injuries?

Sometimes people think they should wait until they’re fully recovered and completely healed before filing any claim. By that time they’ll know what their total medical bill is.

But this wastes valuable time. Some injuries take many months, even a year or more, to heal. Some, like neck and back injuries, can cause problems years into the future.

But meanwhile, people are moving. They’re changing their names, forgetting what they saw, even possibly dying. The sooner an accident attorney can start on the discovery phase of the case, the stronger your case can be made.

Contact us as soon as possible after your accident. Our medical experts can begin interviewing people as to your injuries and based on this information, they can estimate future medical costs.

Medical bills are mounting and I’m not able to work. Should I take the insurance company’s settlement offer so as to be able to pay my bills?

No, that would not be in your best interests. That offer may seem attractive right now, but is it proportional to the sum total of your injuries, lost wages, and pain and suffering? Probably not, because insurance companies pay their adjusters to give you as little as possible.

That’s where a good accident lawyer can help. We can represent you to the insurance company, making it clear to them that a fair settlement is preferable to a long-drawn-out and expensive lawsuit.
